Statement for Potential Memory
Since I started doing theater in my early teens, I’ve felt torn between creating lasting fine art objects and creating inspiring experiences. As a theater artisan, performance artist, and a classically trained painter, mediums often compete for my attention. Potential Memory is a group of objects that can be paintings and, for brief periods of time, experiences.
Potential Memory pieces can be commissioned. I make them for myself to mark or celebrate occasions that might be fleeting physically, but are permanent fixtures of my emotional landscape.
These may or may not be finished works. Leave the painting be and savor the current sculpture or relight it and briefly enjoy it’s glowing and dripping beauty. Do you choose a new moment to blow out the candles or do you let the entire painting melt away and experience all the painting has to give, leaving only a frame?
